A Day in the Life of a Cosmetology Student

As a Cosmetology Student, you begin each day knowing you've decided to pursue a rewarding and exciting career.

You arrive in a classroom designed specifically for future cosmetology professionals. You learn all about fundamental hair cuts, color, design, proper technique, and more. You'll apply your skills to your mannequins, practicing daily and reviewing your notes and textbooks.

After you have attended school for the required hours needed to work in the Student Salon on actual clients, you'll begin your day as a typical cosmetologist does; by preparing your work station and reviewing any scheduled appointments. You'll also work on clients who, sometimes randomly and sometimes by appointment, walk in for services.

Often, your instructors will observe and gather your classmates around to learn a new trend or technique you're performing. You'll apply perms, roller sets, paraffin treatments, waxing, and more. You'll gain experience everyday and develop a clientele.

Once you graduate, your next step is obtaining your cosmetology license. After that, the opportunities are endless, with more 300,000 salons and spas in the U.S. constantly searching for talent.

As you move your students to the Student Salon, you constantly observe and teach your students innovative methods and trends.

You are also a mentor for your students and often must address concerns. Some students will doubt their abilities and your job is to assure them they can succeed - after all, you have done so yourself!
