Arizona Beauty School Showcases Student Talent During Competition

Harajuku hair designEmpire Beauty School in Avondale, Arizona, kicked off their ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of their newly built school with a Japanese-theme student competition.

The students used a Japanese street style theme for their colorful creations. Many students incorporated Japanese traditions such as the legend of the Koi fish, geisha styles and current trends such as Harajuku and the vibrant colors of the Hello Kitty Hello Kitty hair colorthemes.

Many of the students learned about color and how to work with different tones, shades and highlights on their mannequins.“The students really learned to work with color,” noted Empire’s Vice President of Industry Relations Dorothy McKinley-Soressi.

Koi fish hairstyleNot only did the Empire Beauty School students incorporate their designs into their mannequins, but they also accompanied their creations with story boards detailing their research and premise for their designs.

Salon representatives from JCPenney™, Smart Style, AACS, Avondale City Council Members, and the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology were on hand for the student hair show competition.
