Empire Beauty Schools held their 5th annual student competition and trade show event in Hershey, PA. The 2009 Future Professionals Expo debuted over 80 beauty industry manufacturers, celebrity stylists, beauty workshops and seminars, a career corner for on-site interviews with several top salons, and of course the highlight of the two-day event, the competition phase.
Students competed for incredible prizes which included shadowing beauty professionals in locations such as New York, Canada, Maryland, Florida, and Nevada, as well as professional products and gift prizes from sponsors such as Odyssey Nail Systems, Redken, Outre, Conair, OPI, Diamond Shears, Burmax, Matrix, Schoeneman Beauty Supply, Great Clips, Bodyography Cosmetics, and Diamond Shears.
The competitions included Long Hair Evening Design, Ladies Trend Cut and Style with Color, Make-Up Artistry Storyboard, Men's Cut and Style Storyboard, and Nail Art Display. In addition, a National Future Professional of the Year, National Educator of the Year, Future Professional Stylist Team, and Total Team were also awarded during the event. As the competitors cropped, clipped and colored their designs and creations, other attendees were treated to specialized beauty and cosmetology workshops where industry professionals showcased the latest in trends, products, tools and more.
The students were also able to participate in the Career Corner Empire hosted, where salons such as
JC Penney’s, Great Clips, SmartStyle, MasterCuts, Hair Cuttery, Ratner Company, Regis Corporation, Holiday Hair Salons, and Outlooks for Hair were on site to interview potential employees. The students brought along resumes and portfolios to impress the salon chains and learn more about various careers in the cosmetology industry.
Several guest artists were on hand as judges or to lead the educational workshops showing the students the latest techniques, styles and trends, such as Goldwell's Shannon Lamm, HAI's Edward Teitel and Teresa Lewis from OPI.
